Algeria's national Oil Company announced on August 24 local time that it has discovered a new oil field with estimated reserves of 151 million barrels in the Siba region of Adrar province in southern Afghanistan, CCTV News reported.
Algeria is a member of Opec and its oil and gas industry is the backbone of its economy. At present, the country's proven oil reserves are about 1.7 billion tons, accounting for 1% of the world's total reserves, ranking the 15th in the world, and natural gas reserves ranking the 10th in the world.
